Prestwick Flying Club originated at Prestwick Airport
in the mid 1970's and has been in continuous existence thanks to the
co-operation and support of successive management at the airport and the
efforts of the voluntary work of members who have dedicated themselves
to the sustainability of the club.
This facility exists at Glasgow- Prestwick Airport,
(on the south side), and is open for the benefit not only of the local
community, but indeed the whole of south west Scotland. This is
reflected by the fact that members not only reside in Ayrshire, but come
from as far away as Glasgow, Fife and mid central Scotland.
The principles of the club when formed those many years ago, still apply
to this day, namely :-
-
The provision of light single engine aircraft
flying on a not for profit basis :-
-
to train those who have aspired to achieve the
goal of learning to fly ; gain their
Private Pilot's Licence and perhaps even progress into a career in
aviation - as many have done.
-
to allow those who have gained their Licence to
continue to enjoy recreational flying.
-
provide the integral clubhouse facilities,
incorporating not only the logistics required for the safe operation
and undertaking of flying, but also a place which allows social
meetings for all those interested in aviation.
